Chip-omelette...
So, Africa is different, not a big surprise, but still, some things will take a while to get used to. First of all, we are staying in a student dorm on campus where there is 'currently' no tap water which means, we have water in big buckets in our room. Therefore, showers are both shorter and less comfortable than at home, but most importantly, we manage to get cleaner than before the shower, which feels relieving and refreshing after sweating most of the day.
The food is not as bad as we had been told, although, we basically eat the same thing all the time, fruit for breakfast, chip-omelette for lunch and rice with beans or potatoes and sauce for dinner. The meat is extremely tough, almost impossible to eat, the chicken is the driest we have ever tasted and the fish...well, it certainly looks and tastes like fish, but it is so small there is hardly any meat.
People here are friendly and helpful, everyone wants to be our friend and know where our room is, (which we have decided not to tell anyone), or if they could have our emails. They laugh at us constantly, and we haven't yet worked out if they are simply laughing at us or if they think it is exciting to see white people.
We are still waiting to visit the school where we will do our project, but hopefully they will take us there tomorrow in order for us to start our project. As the university is located outside Dodoma, and Dodoma itself is in the middle of nowhere, we are very excited over the fact that we can access Internet from their university library, which hardly has any books by the way. Many hours have already been spent surfing the net trying to plan our holiday after these four weeks in Dodoma.
Although everyday life here is a bit complicated and not always that easy to adjust to, I am grateful for the experience and will have many exciting stories to tell when I come home.
