Jambo!

We made it to Dodoma, although it took quite some time. As we arrived at the airport in Dar es Salaam, our driver hadn't come, so we ended up waiting for six hours without much to eat. Shaky and tired from the flight, we sat in the heat waiting until 2.30 pm, when the driver finally came. We drove for six hours without any toilet stops, and trust me, I have never made it that long before. They dropped us off at Veta hotel in Dodoma, close to the parliament and much better than we had expected. After a much needed sleep, the driver from the University of Dodoma picked us up in the morning and took us to campus where we met the Dean, some professors and our contact person, Dr. S. They are all incredibly friendly and want to make our visit the best possible, and so far they have. We also have a driver that will pick us up in the mornings and drive us to the school where we'll do our project. Last night we were invited to Dr. S's house and ate their national dish, Ugali, it's like dough, made of maize and water, we ate it with a vegetable stew, and it was surprisingly tasty and gluten free. We talked about politics, climate, education etc, and it was such an interesting conversation, just to listen to their experiences and opinions.

Today we decided to take a look around the 'city' and it is quite an experience being the only mzungu (white person) around, which they kindly remind us of. It's about 35 degrees in the sun, but surely feels like 40. The 'Stockholm walk' is not even worth considering, better take it really slow. Tomorrow we are going to church to listen to their choir, Dr. S's daughter is taking us there which is probably good as some have never seen mzungis before.

From Monday we will stay in a student dorm on campus, they have prepared it for us to make sure it is as good as possible and I think it will be an interesting experience for us.

Hopefully I will be able to use internet again, some time soon. Until then,
