Being a teacher is a lot different to being in the sales business, there are NO business trips whatsoever, at least not where I work. Although aware of the benefits of more and longer holidays, it would, however, be nice to go on a trip with work once in a while, why not a kick off or simply to work on team building or something similar? Don't teachers need to be motivated or inspired just like everyone else? (I'm not saying all companies go on these kinds of trips, but I've definitely heard of some).
There are so many things within the teaching profession that need to be improved and changed. Teacher salaries for starters, and why not the work load when we're at it? Another thing that is quite annoying is how some political parties seem to think that all school related issues will be solved by having more teachers per student. What they don't seem to realise is that there are so many other, more important aspects to consider. Basically anyone, disregarding grades, can study to become a teacher, all you need is 0.1 on the Swedish equivalent to SAT and you are accepted to the teacher's programme.
Moreover, teaching as a profession is not especially attractive, one of the reasons being the low salary. Perhaps these factors should be considered before anything else? In my opinion, it is scary to hear that 60% of Sweden's teachers are ready to change jobs, and then I don't mean teaching jobs.
As you can tell, being a grass widow for a couple of days can evoke a lot of thought!
